Register Now! As usual, our winter meeting will be a Webinar accessible to ALL our members, no matter how geographically far-flung, no matter the weather. (Well, okayundefinedprobably not if there's another nasty storm that causes power outages.) You can participate from the comfort of your home or office, through the magic of our AnyMeeting software subscription.

Here's the lineup of activities

10:00 AM - Welcome; New President's vision message; brief member business meeting.

10:30 AM - INTRODUCTORY PRESENTATION:
QR CODES AND MOBILE WEBSITES

presented by Mike Williams

Account Rep at H&H Graphics Group

The whole world's going mobile, and more and more people are accessing the Web from smartphones and tablets. How can savvy indie publishers take advantage of this trend? QR codes!

There's nothing magical about a QR Code -- it's just ink on paper, like a regular barcode. The magic lies in using the QR code as a link between your written content (ads, flyers, bookmarks) and online content. This seminar will help you learn

  • what QR codes can and can’t do
  • what you should and shouldn’t do with them
  • who uses them and why that matters.
The QR code works hand-in-hand with another emergent technology: the mobile website -- a site designed to be responsive to and effectively read on smaller mobile device screens. Both are important new tools to use in your book promotion and marketing, but there are important considerations that must be addressed before diving into this new arena of customer interaction.

  • Do you know what questions to ask?
  • Does your marketing team fully grasp the power and purpose of the mobile experience?
Under Mike's guidance, we will explore the powerful combination of QR codes and mobile websites as they relate to the needs of the independent publisher.

Mike's presentation will be followed by an open Q&A session, so you can ask for details about how to apply what you've learned to your own titles.

11:30 AM - Short Break

11:35 AM - FEATURED PRESENTATION:

Create a Functional Marketing Plan to
Get A Fast Start Selling in 2013

presented by Brian Jud

Along with being a much sought after speaker on the publishing circuit, Brian is author of Beyond the Bookstore and The Marketing Planning CD-ROM, describing new ways to sell more books profitably to special-sales buyers. He is also the author of the new series of printed booklets Proven Tips for Publishing Success. Brian is editor of the Book Marketing Matters special-sales newsletter, and creator of the Special-Sales Profit Center.

Brian will share with us his time-tested secrets for building a realistic and workable marketing plan for this year's titles, giving you a head start on revving up 2013 sales. This is not a lot of fluffy theoretical concepts, but a slate of industry proven techniques for making the most of your marketing resources of time, labor and money. Learn how to

  • treat the word PLAN as a verb, not a noun
    • plan efficiently and effectively
    • plan appropriate timing of your marketing efforts and elements in the life cycle of a book
    • proceed on a day-to-day basis
    • prioritize potential opportunities and prepare to pursue unforeseen opportunities as they arise
    • set time limits for project completion
    • know when to quit initiatives that don't perform
    • and much more!
Brian's presentation will be followed by an open Q&A session, so you can ask for details about how to apply what you've learned to your own business model and production activities.
